Editorial & Review Policy
Helplines.com.au is operated by Digital Treasure Pty Ltd. This page explains how our content is created, reviewed, and kept up to date — and what to do if you find an error.
Who Creates This Content
Content on Helplines.com.au is created by Digital Treasure Pty Ltd, an Australian company operating health information and navigation tools. Our content team works with registered health professionals to ensure accuracy and clinical relevance.
GP Review Process
All clinical content — including condition pages, screening tool descriptions, and treatment guides — is reviewed by a registered General Practitioner (AHPRA registered, Australian GP) before publication. This includes:
- Clinical accuracy of information about mental health conditions
- Appropriateness of screening tool descriptions and scoring interpretations
- Accuracy of Medicare and service access information
- Alignment with current RACGP guidelines and APS frameworks
Sources We Use
We cite sources on every content page. Our primary references include:
- Services Australia and the Australian Government Department of Health
- Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) guidelines
- Australian Psychological Society (APS) frameworks
- Peer-reviewed research cited with DOI links via PubMed where available
- Official helpline and service provider websites
- MBS Online for Medicare item and rebate information
How We Keep Content Current
Health information changes. Medicare rules, helpline hours, and clinical guidelines are updated regularly. Our policy:
- Helpline numbers, hours and language support in the Find Help directory carry a "last verified" date and a link to the service's own website; we aim to re-check each entry at least every 6 months (next due by April 2027). Listings elsewhere on the site are being brought into the same process, and are not all individually re-verified yet
- Medicare rebate amounts and session limits are checked against Services Australia at each site update
- Pages include a "last reviewed" or publication context where relevant
- The site version number (visible in the bottom-right corner of every page) tracks when changes were made
How We Write About Suicide and Self-Harm
Some pages on this site touch on suicide, self-harm or crisis. We aim to follow Mindframe, the Australian guidelines for communicating about suicide and self-harm. In practice:
- We do not describe methods, or give detail about how someone has harmed themselves
- We avoid stigmatising or outdated terms such as "commit suicide" or "successful/failed attempt"
- Pages that raise the topic show crisis contacts (Lifeline 13 11 14, 000 in an emergency)
- Screening tools that ask about thoughts of self-harm (PHQ-9 question 9, EPDS question 10) show support contacts if you answer yes, and say plainly that the result is not a diagnosis
- Safety-planning content is general information and is not a substitute for talking with a health professional or a crisis service
We are not endorsed by Mindframe, and we have not independently audited every page against every part of the guidelines. If you see wording that falls short, please tell us via the About page and we will fix it.
What This Site Does Not Do
- We do not provide medical advice or diagnoses
- We do not let advertising influence which services we list or how we describe them, and we do not accept payment to list a helpline
- We do not replace GP consultations or clinical assessment
- Screening tools are for self-assessment only — not diagnostic tests
- We are not affiliated with any helpline, health service, or pharmaceutical company listed on this site
- We do not use AI-generated content on patient-facing pages
Report an Error
If you find outdated information, a broken helpline number, or a clinical inaccuracy, please let us know. We take errors seriously — especially in health information. Contact us via the About page.
