Common Questions About the Safety Plan

What is the Stanley-Brown framework this tool is based on?
The Safety Planning Intervention was developed by Barbara Stanley and Gregory Brown, and is one of the most evidence-supported approaches for helping someone at risk of suicide identify warning signs, coping strategies, and support contacts in a structured, personal plan.
Where is my safety plan stored?
Entirely on your own device — it is never sent to our servers. You can print it, save it, or share it with someone you trust, but by default it stays private to you.
Is a safety plan a substitute for professional help?
No. A safety plan is a practical tool to use alongside professional support, not instead of it. If you're in immediate danger, call 000. For crisis support, Lifeline (13 11 14) and the Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467) are available 24/7.
